Google Made Me Stupid.

I HATE to admit it but I skimmed the article. I was so mad at myself that I made myself go back and read the article. All the while I was wondering how much longer the article was. The article is so true that it pretty much walked me through what I was thinking the entire time-- it was scary. When the article talked about reading in terms of “efficiency” and “immediacy” I couldn’t have agreed more. I, like Freeman, used to be an avid reader but now because of my seemingly busy life I no longer have time to read for fun as I used to all the time. I also have seen my own decreased attention span in conversations. I used to be able to be deeply involved in a text I would be reading but now I find my mind wandering almost constantly to all the other things going on around me. By far the most powerful thing that was mentioned was that “As we are drained of our ‘inner repertory of dense cultural inheritance,’ Foreman concluded, we risk turning into ‘”pancake people’—spread wide and thin as we connect with that vast network of information accessed by the mere touch of a button.”” I hate think that our culture is so widespread but thin but it is definitely true. It seems as if we no longer have the connection to our individual cultures or “melting pot” culture that we once had—it doesn’t even seem to cross our minds anymore.
